Keppel Bay, Keppel Island and the Marina Around The Island Residence

Keppel Bay is one of the city’s oldest harbour settings and, over the past two decades, one of its best-known waterfront neighbourhoods. This guide gives the area context around Keppel Island, where The Island Residence is planned.

The Harbour Behind The Island Residence

The bay takes its name from Captain Henry Keppel, who visited the harbour in 1848, and the sheltered waters between the mainland and what is now Sentosa have served shipping for generations. Keppel’s own account of the bay, published in 2016, describes its transformation into a waterfront precinct of homes, a marina and promenades.

That transformation produced several of the area’s landmarks: Reflections at Keppel Bay, described by Keppel as six glass towers and eleven villa apartment blocks with 1,129 homes; Caribbean at Keppel Bay, built around a historic dry dock; and Corals at Keppel Bay on the eastern shore.

Keppel Island and The Island Residence

Keppel Island lies in the middle of the bay. Keppel’s published fact sheets describe it as a privately owned natural island of about 5.0 hectares, joined to the mainland by a cable-stayed bridge 245 metres long. Marina at Keppel Bay, at 2 Keppel Bay Vista, occupies part of the island; Keppel described it in 2016 as offering 168 yacht berths.

As precinct history, Keppel’s 2016 account also described its remaining sites in Keppel Bay, one on the mainland and one on Keppel Island, as slated for future homes. Details of The Island Residence itself, including the developer, are published on this site only from the developer’s own release.

The Waterfront Walks Around The Island Residence

On the mainland shore, Bukit Chermin Boardwalk runs along the water about 370 metres from the site pin, below the wooded hillside and the towers of Reflections. Further west, Berlayer Creek’s mangrove boardwalk and the Labrador Nature Reserve are about a kilometre away, and the Southern Ridges climb above the bay from Mount Faber.
